“Fountain Walk” Bill Beatty, Piano
Friends of the Fountain and Walk recently rediscovered a treasure in its archives: a cassette tape from 1989 titled “Fountain Walk,” featuring eight tracks of lovely solo piano music by Berkeley musician, composer and music teacher William “Bill” Beatty. The cassette cover features an image of the street sign for Fountain Walk and a representation of the Fountain at The Circle – which was not in place in 1989.
We spoke with Bill, who explained the story of his album. Bill grew up on Fountain Walk, in the only house that has a Fountain Walk address. He was musical from an early age, and believes he wrote much of the music on the tape when he was still a pre-teen.
Bill, who still lives in Berkeley, has graciously allowed FOFW to share the music inspired by his time on Fountain Walk. You can listen to it here. Enjoy!
