January 7, 2026 | Tripping the Lights (Not) Fantastic

Friends and neighbors:

Just a note to explain why the holiday lights around the perimeter of the island of the Fountain at The Circle have been dark these past few weeks.

The heavy rains and wind have played havoc with the garlands that contain the lights, causing the electricity to short out much of the time. We’ve tried to make repairs between storms, but have not been able to fix the problem completely. That said, we believe that about two-thirds of the lights will be back on and working the next few days, before our volunteers take down the lights and the wreaths adorning the grizzly bear cubs Saturday morning.

We’ll aim to make sure the lights are less vulnerable to the weather this next holiday season.

The storms also pulled down our “Season’s Greetings” banner from a fence on the south side of The Circle. A helpful neighbor noticed and rescued it, and it’s back in place, also for the next few days.

We hope you had a chance to see the full holiday display at some pint since it went up at the end of November. If not, here’s a look at it in its full glory.

All the best for the new year!

  • As always, the Fountain is welcome … and appreciated … as well as the people who continue to honor and maintain.

  • Kathleen Keller says:

Thank you so much for beautifying further a lovely neighborhood, (of my childhood)! Really gorgeous!

  • Thea Lerner Daniels says:

Your work is much appreciated !

Thank you so much for the absolutely beautiful holiday spirit on the beloved bear fountain. It is a huge job I know.

  • Don and Becky Grether says:

We appreciate the effort that so many have done to build the fountain, upgrade the Marin Circle area, and – in process – upgrade the whole Northbrae community.

Because of our age and my physical disabilities, we have only been able to help by making modest donations. First, to help with the construction, and then almost every year since. We are pleased to show visitors a 1914 photo of our house at 1031 Oxford, and it’s original owner; and the dedications of the original fountain and the new one. We can point to where we are in the latter photo.

  • Laura Morland says:

Thank you all so much for all the work you’ve done to recreate the fountain… and to decorate it for the season.

Having lived in the neighborhood for a long time before the fountain was revived, I rarely fail to experience a sense of gratitude as I round the circle.

    Happy New Year!
