June 28, 2022 | SOLVED!: A seed-napping on Fountain Walk?

2 Comments | Categorised in:

An update: Shortly after this note was posted, a neighbor contacted us to say they had removed the Love-in-a-Mist cuttings in an effort to keep Fountain Walk clean. The cuttings and seed pods have been recovered and will help beautify the lower Walk planting beds in the future.

Friends and neighbors:

For many years now, Fountain Walk neighbor Wendy Wells has been the primary caretaker/gardener/guiding spirit of the planting beds along the lower walk. She has invested her heart and soul and many of her own funds in making the plantings there come to life year-round.

Today, a stack of cuttings she recently made in order to harvest seed pods for future planting disappeared from Fountain Walk. These cuttings of Love-in-a-Mist plants had taken years to cultivate, and without them, these lovely flowers can’t be replanted for the coming year.

If perhaps you know the fate of the missing cuttings, please contact us by email at fountainandwalk@gmail.com. We can pick them up from you. Or return them to the landing on Fountain Walk. Or, assuming they may have been discarded, if you might have any Love-in-a-Mist seed pods to share, you can contact us at the same email or drop them inside the iron gate at the center of Fountain Walk. Any of these would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much.

New to gardening, I think I recognize this flower growing in my gravel path as a volunteer. I would love to learn how to encourage and share it.

Hi, Annie. I’ve passed along your inquiry to our Walk gardener. Another thought: Take a photo and talk to the nice folks at Berkeley Horticultural Nursery. I’m sure they can help you. Good luck!
