In celebration of this year’s 30th anniversary of the restoration of the Fountain at The Circle and Fountain Walk, our organization held an event to thank FOFW’s founders, its most devoted volunteers and our most generous donors.
The event was held at the Berkeley Hillside Club on Thursday, Sept. 17 – 30 years and two days after a dedication ceremony for the restored civic treasures drew thousands of people to The Circle in Northbrae.
The crowd at the anniversary event was much smaller, but the atmosphere was equally joyous. Along with a showing of the new documentary “The Fountain at The Circle” (now viewable on our website), the evening included the presentation of a proclamation honoring the occasion and the work of FOFW by Berkeley Mayor Adena Ishii (who sometimes moonlights as an FOFW volunteer). The evening was sponsored by Northbrae-based District Homes realty.
Friends of the Fountain and Walk is grateful to all its volunteers and supporters, current and past. And to its partners in the maintenance of these landmarks, the city’s Parks and Public Works departments. The drive to revive this historic area of Berkeley three decades ago was a broad-based community effort. We look forward to that same sense of community involvement ensuring the continued health of the fountain and walk for the next 30 years and beyond.
