September 9, 2026 | Fountain Resurfaced and Flowing Again!

After a hiatus of a few weeks to have its main pool resurfaced, the Fountain at The Circle is back on and flowing in time to mark its 30th anniversary this month.

Friends of the Fountain and Walk contracted with Paramount Pool Plaster of Hayward to repair the surface of the large concrete lower basin. The covering sealing the cement had largely worn away, which encouraged significant algae growth. Paramount workers ground away the old covering, cleaned the surface, then applied a new coating of dark pool plaster. They also re-grouted the tiles set into the basin just below the rim.
These repairs, made possible through community donations to our neighborhood nonprofit, should last for many years. FOFW is proud to be the caretaker of the fountain, adjacent Fountain Walk and the historic area around The Circle in partnership with the City of Berkeley.
Thanks again to all those who have supported the work of Friends of the Fountain and Walk since it was founded 33 years ago and led the effort to install a replica of the long-lost original Fountain at The Circle. The new fountain was dedicated on Sept. 15, 1996.
