September 15, 2026 | New Film About the Fountain at North Branch Library Oct. 15

We are pleased to announce that Friends of the Fountain and Walk and the North Branch of the Berkeley Public Library will present a showing of a new short documentary film about the history of the Fountain at The Circle and Fountain Walk on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the North Branch Library.

The film, “The Fountain at The Circle,” presents the history of the two fountains that have flowed at the intersection of Marin and Arlington avenues: one erected in 1911 and destroyed in a crash in 1957; and today’s fountain, installed through the efforts of a group of neighbors and now celebrating the 30th anniversary of its dedication — along with the restored Fountain Walk — in 1996.

The 24-minute film was made by Berkeley freelance writer, filmmaker, historian and fountain neighbor Barbara Zuber Goldstein. Barbara has a Ph.D. in history from the University of Vienna and has been a writer and historical consultant for several award-winning feature movies.

The free, hour-long program at the library, at 1170 The Alameda, will begin at 6 p.m. in the library’s community Meeting Room. Along with the film, the presentation will include photos, drawings, and documents about the history of the two fountains and their places in Northbrae history.
