Friends and neighbors:

We are pleased to share that a documentary and an article about the history of the Fountain at The Circle and Fountain Walk created to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the restoration of these local treasures can now be viewed via the Friends of the Fountain and Walk website.

The film, “The Fountain at The Circle,” presents the history of the two fountains that have flowed at the intersection of Marin and Arlington avenues: one erected in 1911 and destroyed in a crash in 1957; and today’s fountain, installed through the efforts of a group of neighbors and now celebrating the 30th anniversary of its dedication in 1996.

The 24-minute film was made by Berkeley freelance writer, filmmaker, historian and fountain neighbor Barbara Zuber Goldstein. Barbara has a Ph.D. in history from the University of Vienna and has been a writer and historical consultant for several award-winning feature movies.

A link to the film, which is hosted on YouTube, can be found on the FOFW website home page.

The article, titled “The Fountain at The Circle Celebrates 30 Years Since Its Rebirth,” also details the more than century-old history of the fountain and walk area. It was published this past summer in the quarterly newsletter of the Berkeley Historical Society and Museum, which goes out to BHSM members. It was recently posted online on the Society’s website, where anyone can access it.

You can read the article, and the entire newsletter, here.

Thanks to all who have helped celebrate this milestone year and to the volunteers and donors who make the work of FOFW possible.
