Friends and neighbors:
This year is the 25th anniversary of the founding of Friends of the Fountain and Walk, your all-volunteer neighborhood nonprofit that has partnered with the City of Berkeley to restore and care for the historic Fountain at The Circle and Fountain Walk in the heart of Berkeley’s Northbrae neighborhood.
We came into existence in 1993 when neighbors working separately to try to restore the John Galen Howard-designed walk, then overgrown and crumbling, and to re-create his 1911 fountain — the original was destroyed in a truck accident in 1958 — joined forces. (You can read the complete history here.)
A quarter-century later, FOFW (as the kids like to call us) is going strong. With “Friends” in more than 800 households like yours across Berkeley and beyond, we remain dedicated to helping ensure the preservation of the treasured public landmarks we — and many of you –were instrumental in reviving.
To mark FOFW’s 25th year, an anniversary event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m.
We will gather at Berkeley’s Hillside Club for an early holiday season evening of drinks and hors d’oeuvres, socializing and a bit of historical programming. We’ll recognize our dedicated volunteers and donors, honor founding members, and offer Fountain and Walk-themed merchandise for sale.
If you wish to attend (and did not already receive an invitation), please do us the favor of sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please do so no later than October 30. That will help us know how many guests to prepare for.
Thanks for helping Friends of the Fountain and Walk reach age 25. We hope we remain “Friends” for many years to come.
