October 1, 2020 | Oct. 8 T1 Bond Meeting

Dear Friends of FOFW,

In November 2016, Berkeley voters approved Measure T1, a $100 million bond measure to repair, renovate, replace or reconstruct elements of our city’s aging infrastructure. Phase 1, approved in 2017, has funded more than 45 projects through 2021, including renovation of the North Berkeley Senior Center and Live Oak Community Center, as well as various park upgrades, street and landscaping improvements. Now Phase 2 is being planned, for projects to begin in 2022. A virtual meeting on Thursday, Oct. 8, is your final chance to weigh in on how T1 bond money should be spent on improvements in Northbrae and environs.

This meeting, hosted on Zoom by city staff and members from the Parks and Waterfront and Public Works commissions, is one of five the city will hold this month to discuss project possibilities in various areas of Berkeley. This is the only one focused on Northbrae and the Berkeley hills, though citywide projects will also be discussed.

At a preliminary meeting last month, Friends of the Fountain and Walk proposed revamping and improving Fountain Walk, and also making improvements around The Circle. Other suggestions from Northbrae neighbors included repaving a number of streets and improving the median along Arlington Avenue. Other proposals are still welcome.

The Oct. 8 meeting, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., is for discussion of possible projects in city council districts 5 and 6.
