Hello, friends and neighbors.

Friends of the Fountain and Walk wants to alert you to the fact that a few improvement projects are expected to begin in and around The Circle very soon. These are projects that FOFW has been working toward for some time, and it appears that our partners at the city are ready to help us move forward.

Here is what is planned:

♦ A group of protective bollards on the fountain island in the center of The Circle that were knocked askew when a vehicle ran into them several months ago will be straightened up and re-footed.

♦ The large concrete pillar at the foot of upper Marin and Indian Rock avenues that has been significantly tilted for many years will be reset properly on a new base.

♦ Two new historically appropriate concrete benches (matching a trio of benches already on the Mendocino/Los Angeles median just off The Circle) will be installed. One will face an existing pair of benches near the Millennium Oak tree at the north end of the median; the other will be installed at the bus stop fronting Marin just west of The Circle, providing a resting place for both bus riders and passers-by.

Also, a few weeks ago, a new landmark plaque was installed at the foot of the Fountain Walk steps at the corner of Del Norte and Sutter streets. This plaque, which echoes an earlier plaque placed on The Circle in 2003, commemorates the landmarked improvements that were a centerpiece of the Northbrae neighborhood more than a century ago: the Fountain at The Circle and Fountain Walk.

These improvements to this landmark area should enhance its esthetic appeal. They are just the latest projects carried out by FOFW in partnership with the city, and made possible largely through the support donors like you.

Our all-volunteer neighborhood nonprofit turns 30 this year, and that longevity is also due in great part to community support. You can show your support by donating securely online here, or signing up for volunteer opportunities here.

Thanks.
